From Wellness Warrior to Wine-Loving Yoga Therapist: My Journey to Balanced, Joyful Health

A Shift in Perspective

When I first started my wellness journey, I believed that doing all the “right” things—clean eating, intense workouts, and daily intense Yoga practice—was the ultimate path to health. But life has a way of teaching us that there’s no perfect formula. Losing my younger brother and going through early menopause due to stress showed me that wellness is about so much more than checking off a to-do list.

Despite my decades of experience as a Yoga teacher and Yoga Therapist https://www.iayt.org/, there were moments when I, too, felt like wellness was failing me. The rigid expectations, the idea that yoga or a superfood smoothie could fix everything—it all began to feel like an illusion. And so, I shifted my approach. I realized that self-care needed to include laughter, indulgence, and a deeper sense of connection, not just with my body, but with my life as a whole.

Letting Go of the Guilt

For so long, I saw self care https://www.who.int/health-topics/self-care#tab=tab_1as a serious endeavor. I believed that if I wasn’t doing yoga every day or sticking to a strict routine, I was failing myself. But that kind of mindset isn’t sustainable, especially for women like us—mothers, caregivers, and professionals who already have so much on our plates. We’re often the first to take care of others and the last to give ourselves a break.

So I gave myself permission to enjoy life in a more meaningful way. Now, I balance self-care with self-compassion, acknowledging that some days, joy comes from a sweaty yoga session, and other days, it comes from a well-earned glass of wine. I’ve learned to laugh at my imperfections, to celebrate the little things, and to not take myself—or wellness—too seriously.

Embracing Joyful Wellness

You don’t have to give up the things you love to feel good. In fact, it’s about creating a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside.

So, what does joyful wellness look like? It’s showing up for a yoga class and being okay if your balance is off that day. It’s learning to savor a glass of your favorite wine without feeling guilty. It’s laughing at yourself when your perfectly planned self-care routine goes sideways.

Finding Your Balance

If you feel overwhelmed by wellness trends that make you feel like you’re never doing enough, you’re not alone. My mission is to make health and well-being feel approachable and fun. I want to help women like you realize that taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be stressful. You can prioritize your health and indulge in life’s pleasures.

So, let’s raise a glass to balance. To embracing joy, to finding what feels good, and to realizing that wellness doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
